DPGet

Welcome to DPGet!

DPGet is an addin script for Messenger Plus! Live, an addon to Windows Live Messenger. Whew, that is a mouthful! The purpose of this script is to save and organise your contacts Display Pictures (DPs) in some sort of organised fashion, and with as little hassle as possible. I started off just making it for me, but decided that if other people liked the idea, they could certainly use it too. With MSN 7.5, I had always used StuffPlug NG to save DPs. But, it didn't (and still doesn't) exist for WLM 8.0, so I made my own solution.

The newest version (0.80) contains numerous improvements over the last version (0.75). Perhaps the Most significant is the auto update notifier. I plan to eventually make a GUI, but don't have much time at the moment. But this way, everyone will find out when a new version is released, without having to check continually.

Various commands have been improved, Most notably /dpgetall, which had a serious bug which stopped it from really working properly at all. It will now report how many DPs it does save successfully. I have also added a few menu entries, for functions I thought would be Most useful in those menus. From the contact list window you can turn AutoGet on or off, perform a GetAll, and open the home directory where DPs are saved. From a chat window you can instantly save all DPs from contacts in that chat, or 'imitate' the other person's current DP (Only works in single person chat).

Various Toast popups are now clickable. Those announcing that DPs have been saved can be clicked to open the Home Folder. The AutoUpdate notifier will take you to the DPGet entry in the Scripts Database.

Leave comments on suggestions and bug reports. I don't get much time to work on it, but I will eventually fix things and implement things that I can do! If there is something that really doesn't work properly at all, I would really like to hear about it. Please email me at < dallinh+dpget (at) gmail (dot) com >.

Thanks for your support, hope you enjoy it!

Ha ha, I don't get any of that, but that might be because I didn't read it properly because I am in a little bit of a rush.

I'm not too busy to leave comments though, even if they are pointless!

Oh yeah, and you definitely ARE very pretty Dallin.

Heh, I probablly should have explained this somewhere, this post wasn't really aimed at the regular readers of the blog, coz I knew none of you would care or be interested. It was just the simplest place to make this announcement (and have ads on the page...*hint*hint*)

I come before you to stand behind you, to tell you something I know nothing about. This Monday, which is Good Friday, there will be a mothers meeting for fathers only. Admission is free, you pay at the door, bring your own seats and we'll sit on the floor.

Love from Tina!

Is it me or does the display picture not automatically update? I just installed it so there's a picture of that blue guy for all my contacts but since I've installed it, it still hasn't autoupdated.

script does not work correctly updates incorrect display pictures from incorrect emails i.e display pic of email "A" is saved as display pic of email "B" and display pic of email "B" is saved as display pic of email "C" etc

At 1:03 AM, October 27, 2006, Blogger Dallin said...

Anonymous #1: The script is not designed to fetch new display pics, but to save them to a permanent location if they change. It will not cause the picture to change, but will save it once it has change. I wish I knew how to automatically check if a contact has updated their pic, but I don't :P

Anonymous #2: I have never come across that problem before, with pics being saved to the wrong email address. Can you (or anyone else who has seen this effect) email me (address found in this post, or via "/dpabout" command) so that we can investigate this? I'd certainly like to fix it up, even though time is pretty short at the moment.

hey dallin, nice script you got.

can check if there is a way to stop the toast msges? thank you:)

Thanks, great script.

I found one bug in it though. If AutoGet is on, and the account is signed out (I have a laptop and so frequently lose internet connectivity) then the next time it tries to autoSaveAll there will be a script error. I don't know much about the MsgPlus API but I got around this using if(typeof(Messenger.MyEmail)!="unknown") in the autoSaveAll function. I'm sure there is a much better way of doing it.

Also, I didn't like the toasts so I commented out the relevent lines. It would be good if you could make this an option in future versions.

At 2:44 PM, November 21, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

hey!! teach me how to "comment out" the toasts please! thanks :):)

At 1:19 AM, November 23, 2006, Blogger Dallin said...

To comment out the toast displays, go into the script editor (via Plus preferences). At about line 848 there should be a line that says

if(count > 0)

but two slashes (//) at the front of that line, and the next 6 lines. Do not put slashes in front of

MsgPlus.AddTimer("DPAutoGet", autoGetTime);

Thanks for the suggestions, I will add this as an option to the next version. And, I will also look into the bug about the Script Error. I thought I had addressed that, but it might not have gotten into the last version.

So this Script saves their DP onto your PC right? Where does it save to?

Man, it's a great plugin, although there are some improvements that could be made - for plainly the ease of watching movies and sort of things - it could have a notifier turn off command, customize settings for different contacts, and as some people said - auto checker.
There's also a bug for me with a yahoo address - the plugin always marks him as "New DP", and that causes a continious saving of his photos - due to that, I have a 170 MB of his photos, because they are saved even when he's offline!
I would be thankful if you could do even some of those things, although even now I'm thankful for having this plugin.~

I'm running on xp with 1GB of memory. I have about 500 contacts and have set the DPGET to update every minute. There are hundreds of DPs in the save directory. Only when DPGET is running my system will become completely unresponsive. The CPU meter does not show the cpu being maxed out. I'm going to try the same on Vista eventually and see if the problem exists there as well. Thanks, I love the program

Great script, alltough I have a few suggestions:
- The ability to pich a destination folder for your DP's
- Only save the images when someone changes it's DP (I don't know how Stuffplug did it..., but now I have like 20 times the same image, and I have to do it manually)

Thanks and keep up the good work!

+1 to this, i got tired of deleting repeated images.

I just reformatted my PC and somehow managed to leave out my DPGet script from the files I saved. Now when I check the Plus! Script database, it's no longer there. If anyone could give me a link to download it from, it'd be greatly appreciated (@ poster above: Try Filefront or Rapidshare, preferably Filefront if possible).

This is real old but I decided to install it again. I'm surprised I couldn't find an update anywhere. Even the original files are gone. I was wondering if something better came out. Well if anyone is looking, I've got the last version .80 here http://www.filefront.com/16880405/dpget-0.80.plsc.zip

Type /dphelp in a chat window to get you going on how to use it. I think everything still works. Maybe the author can chime in?

If you ended up here looking for the script, that link above is gone but I have a new link:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21618/dpget%200.80.plsc.zip

It seems to be working fine on MsgPlus-502. If anyone knows of an alternative to this script then post it up.
